    Responsibilities

    Noblis is currently seeking an Intelligent Transportations Systems (ITS) Engineer for our Surface Transportation Team.

    This is an opportunity for someone with a background and experience in transportation engineering to support the USDOT Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) programs. Noblis provides technical and programmatic support to the USDOT ITS Joint Program Office (JPO) planning and conducting research activities, coordinating technology deployment programs, and seeking disruptive innovation to transform the increasingly connected and automated world of surface transportation systems. A focus of Noblis support is ITS communications / interface standards development to ensure inter-operable deployment of intelligent transportation systems.

     

    As a member of this dynamic team you will participate in the following activities:

    • Developing systems engineering content, to include concepts of operations, requirements, and system design elements  
    • Analyzing documentation developed by Standards Development Organizations (SDOs), and sites participating in the Connected Vehicle Pilots Program and Smart City Programs  
    • Conducting analysis of user needs, requirements and design detail; performing traceability checks and thread assessments  
    • Developing white papers and presentations 
    • Overseeing technical and programmatic activities  
    • Reviewing standards to determine their completeness  
    • Evaluating standards deployment outreach tools  
    • Reviewing project specifications and design documents  
    • Developing statements of work and Government cost estimates  
    • Occasional domestic and international travel (less than 10% a year)

    Qualifications

    • BS required; MS preferred. One of more degrees in one of the following: Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Operations Research.  
    • 2-8 years of experience with developing concept of operations, system requirements specifications, or business processes for ITS technologies and/or connected and automated vehicles 
    • Strong analytical ability required  
    • Experience in developing products and systems (hardware, software, or both)  
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills required  
    • Strong professional, interpersonal, and organizational skills 

    Candidate demonstrates the following:

    • Writes a variety of technical documents and prepares and presents briefings  
    • Author/contributor/reviewer, peer review publications  
    • Works independently to determine approach to and technical objectives of work assignments  
    • Ensures client objectives for quality, schedule, and budget are met or exceeded through direct and creative approaches  
    • Interacts with client representatives on significant technical and project matters 
    • Identifies and develops solutions to program problems  
    • Uses a variety of professional concepts and methodologies

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

     

    • Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) certification a pluscc
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification a plus


    An understanding of, and familiarity with, the following is a plus:  

     

    • Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)  
    • Connected and/or automated vehicle technologies  
    • Information/communications system design and development  
    • Standards development process and the use of standards  
    • Wireless networks for surface transportation communication
